PAUL WINKER

SAMPLE

31 August – 21 September, 2024
Opening: 31 April 17.00 – 19.00 hrs.

PS projectspace is very happy to present SAMPLE, an exhibition of new paintings by Paul Winker. SAMPLE marks both the artist’s debut at PS and his first international solo exhibition.

Winker’s paintings are the result of an acute hyperawareness outsized and manifest into chromatic pools of paint on canvas. In 2020, Danielle Avram wrote in the Dallas Morning News, “The work of artist Paul Winker seeks to find a balance between these two extremes: marrying careful consideration and painterly process with electronically generated, ad hoc gestures. The resulting paintings are neither wholly abstract nor narrative but exist in a space in between.” For his debut at PS projectspace, Winker has created a new series of small paintings on canvas, that exemplify his recurring utilization of image sampling and found pattern as a compositional tool throughout the past decade.

Paul Winker (b. 1989) lives and works in Dallas, TX.  He received his BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of North Texas and has been included in several group exhibitions in the area, including at Goss-Michael Foundation, The Power Station, and Texas Women’s University.  He has also had multiple solo and collaborative presentations at AND NOW in Dallas. In 2021, Winker was commissioned by collectors Janelle and Alden Pinnell to create an outdoor sculpture at their home, which served as the inaugural offsite project for the Nasher Public initiative. Last year Paul Winker took part in the duo exhibition Paul Winker – Jan van der Ploeg at Cris Worley Fine Arts. Paul Winker is an active participant in the local art scene, often initiating creative opportunities and collaborations with artists throughout the community and beyond. Paul Winker is represented by Cris Worley Fine Arts, in Dallas.

Paul Winker's work will also be on display in the exhibition THE SCORE, in KATE @ Nieuw en Meer, Oude Haagseweg 51, Amsterdam.
